15 Peaks Challange
Guto Williams who is a very eager Program Manager from Byw’n Iach team, has set himself a huge challenge to raise money for St David’s Hospice, which will start on Saturday 11 September!
What is the Challenge?
15 Summits is a very difficult and strenuous challenge that sums up 15 mountains over 3000 feet in Snowdonia within 24 hours, but Guto is confident that he will complete the challenge in less than 18 hours with St David’s Hospice Staff.
The event can be divided into three parts or mountains with their associated peaks:
Snowdon: Crib Goch, Carnedd Ugain, Snowdon. Glyderau: Elidir Fawr, Y Garn, Glyder Fawr, Glyder Fach, Tryfan Carneddau: Pen yr Ole Wen, Carnedd Dafydd, Carnedd Llewelyn, Yr Elen, Foel Grach, Carnedd Gwenllian, Foel Fras.
What’s facing Guto?
Guto will encounter challenging mountainous terrain with steep and complex terrain, loose rocks as well as grassy slopes, uneven terrain and wet areas. Depending on the weather, many of the rocks can also be slippery and difficult underfoot. These trails are only suitable for very fit and experienced mountain walkers, so Guto has a challenge ahead of him.
How did Guto prepare for the challenge?
Training is essential to any challenge and Guto has prepared by taking two days to go up the mountains (two 13 miles sessions) which are parts of the original route he will be doing. He has also been running steep uphill trails to build his fitness, and run a half marathon which is amazing and excellent preparation.
Guto said,
‘Obviously having the right food and drink will help with the day and how much too. So plenty of water and electrolytes and protein snacks etc… .And bananas! ‘
