Inclusive Swimming Lessons

Leah, our swimming teacher, has been doing some really inspiring work with three special learners who are Daniel, Steffan and Mari, by having 1 to 1 lessons in our swimming pool. And they’ve all developed so much since they’ve started.

Following Covid, it was necessary to attract children and regain their swimming confidence as many children and parents had missed out on over a year of attending Swimming lessons and social opportunities.

And Leah has just done this and continues to do outstanding work to help 3 learners gain their confidence in the water.

Daniel’s Story:

Daniel started with Leah as a young boy who was afraid to get his face in the water and didn’t want to try swimming, and now he can do just this without any worries and has managed to make 5x10m Freestyle and 4x10m Frog at the shallow end of the Big Pool.

The next step will be to gain his confidence to get on his back without a float and strive to swim more in the big pool.

We are so happy to hear that his confidence has grown and congratulations to him for successfully challenging and pushing himself!

Here’s what Leah herself had to say,

“It was a pleasure to see the smile on his face at the end of the lesson. I’m looking forward to seeing Daniel develop more swimming skills. It’s a pleasure to teach him, he’s such a nice and polite boy at all times. ”

Steffan’s Story:

Steffen has Cerebral Palsy and when he started with us, he was nervous to go to the deep end of the pool.

But now he has developed brilliantly by swimming back and forth in the pool on his belly and back.

Now he likes to jump from the poolside and can get down to the very bottom without any help.

Excellent Steffan!

Here’s what Leah herself had to say,

“He’s a very cheeky boy, if I ask him not to splash me he’ll probably do it by having fun, which obviously builds his confidence. It is good to see him enjoying and developing after every lesson. It’s a pleasure to teach him”

Mari’s Story:

Mari is Registered Blind and she is not letting her visual impairment hold her back, because she really enjoys swimming!

She has developed her swimming skills so much through the 1 to 1 lessons with Leah which has encouraged her potential and increased her confidence.

She passed Wave 2 and Leah and Mari are now working to pass Wave 3 by also developing the 4 swimming strokes.

Great Mari!

Here’s what Leah herself had to say,

“She’s quite a shy kid but likes to talk when her goggles are steaming up. It’s a pleasure to teach her and it’s good to see her develop to a standard. “

We are so happy to hear all these stories and that our lessons have made a positive impact on children’s lives!

Congratulations to everyone for successfully challenging and pushing themselves!
