In June 2026, Byw’n Iach, in collaboration with Plas Menai, Parkwood and Urdd Gobaith Cymru, hosted Swim Safe sessions for Gwynedd Primary Schools across the county in Plas Heli, Tywyn, Y Bala and Plas Menai.
Swim Safe is a scheme managed nationally by the RNLI and Swim Wales to teach young people how to stay safe in open water. Gwynedd is a county with 180 miles of coastline, rivers, and lakes, making these sessions vital for the local community.
Thanks to a grant from Children’s Alliance, this year’s sessions were able to be offered free of charge to all the schools which attended, allowing children from all backgrounds to take part and learn skills which could one day save their lives.
Over 350 children attended and the sessions were an opportunity to teach the them the water safety code, and give them the opportunity to practice life saving skills in open bodies of water such as lakes and the sea. Watch the video below for a summary of the events:
Thank you to everyone who attended the sessions, and to all our partners – we look forward to seeing you all next year!
