Clwb Nofio Caernarfon have successfully achieved the Bronze Insport Club accreditation! This recognises their commitment to inclusion and providing sporting opportunities for disabled people in Wales and it is an accreditation offered by Disability Sport Wales.
Alun Thomas, who has a physical impairment, and Ela Letton-Jones, who has a visual impairment, are two members of the club that have experienced the clubs inclusivity first hand. Here are their stories!
Alun Thomas’ Story: 
“I started swimming lessons at Plas Menai back in 2018 when I was 4 years old. I loved being in the water, even at that age. Covid (and pool lockdowns) hit just as I was getting my confidence swimming independently which meant no swimming for a long time.
When we returned to the pool, Bron (one of the instructors at Plas Menai) encouraged me to join Caernarfon Swim Club. I went for a trial session in May 2022 and started training with the club every Sunday afternoon. By now I’m training with the club 3 days a week as well as my weekly lessons at Plas Menai.
This year I was invited to join Nofio Gwynedd which means another swimming session at 6am on Saturday mornings, and am currently waiting to be certified at an assessment as the first step on my para pathway journey with Swim Wales. Despite the early starts and the hours spent in the pool I love everything about my swimming journey. I’ve competed at galas, had the chance to swim in a 50m pool, and made many new friends that I know will be part of my life for a long time.”
Ela Letton-Jones’ Story:
“I started at Caernarfon learn to swim when I was 5. This gave me enough skills to join Clwb Nofio Caernarfon at the age of 9. After a few years of swimming a few times a week I was picked up by the Swim Wales foundation squad. After a couple of years I joined Nofio Gwynedd performance.
Over the last three years I have advanced to the Swim Wales Elite squad and have also been able to compete in various British Championships and para World series in Limonges and Berlin.”
