Byw’n Iach Installs Innovative Water Retention System at Byw’n Iach Bro Dysynni

Byw’n Iach has taken a significant step toward improving environmental sustainability at Byw’n Iach Bro Dysynni with the installation of a modern water retention system in the swimming pool plant room. The project was made possible through funding from Admiral / WSA Sustainability in Sports fund and Cyngor Gwynedds Climate and Nature Fund (Gronfa Gwynedd Werdd).

The new system captures 15m³ of wastewater generated during the cleaning of pool filters—water that would previously have been lost to the sewage network. Instead, this reclaimed water is treated, cleaned, and safely returned to the swimming pool.

By implementing this technology, the centre is achieving several key sustainability benefits:

• Reduced water consumption
• Lower heating costs
• Decreased use of pool chemicals
• A smaller overall carbon footprint

Daniel Joyce, Area Manager for Byw’n Iach, highlighted the long-term value of the upgrade:
