Over the last few weeks, Byw’n Iach staff have been busy with their indoor athletics competitions for Primary schools in Gwynedd. Across all rounds, 414 key stage 2 children took part in total, from 44 different schools throughout the Dwyfor, Meirionnydd and Arfon areas.
On Thursday 03/04/25, the final round was held at the Brailsford Centre in Bangor.
A total of 117 children from 13 teams attended the final round, and each child competed in one field activity, and two track activities. Field activities included Speed Bounce, Chest Push, Long Jump and Soft Spear, whilst track activities included different variations of Relay, Obstacle and Paarlauf races.
Congratulations to Ysgol Godre’r Berwyn for winning the shield again this year, and to Ysgol y Garnedd & Ysgol Hendre who came in second and third place! Well done to everyone who competed. It was an amazing competition and it was lovely to see so much talent.
If your child attended the Sports Hall competition and enjoyed the activities, why not consider attending one of our Starting Blocks sessions at your local Byw’n Iach centre? Starting Blocks is a Welsh Athletics programme for children to work through a passport of various skills. Children will learn the key movement skills needed for life in sport, in a safe and positive environment, through games designed to teach children the fundamentals of running, jumping and throwing.
Keep an eye out on social media for more information on the new sessions coming soon! More information about the Starting Blocks programme is available here: Read more.
